Wedding venues in Montenegro

Based on the number of guests and the city of residence, I can advise you to pay attention to the following wedding venues in Montenegro:

Cathedral of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in Kotor

This is the only temple in Kotor where services are held daily. Located in the Old Town, it is a kind of heart of local Orthodoxy. In 2019, the church celebrates its 110th anniversary. It was restored for the anniversary. The constant flow of visiting tourists is compensated by a fairly spacious room, which in decoration resembles our churches with a beautiful, richly decorated iconostasis.

19th century Church of the Holy Trinity

Located in Budva on a square near the fortress walls of the Citadel. Externally, the building follows the contours of the local Podmaine monastery, but inside, the Baroque iconostasis and the painting of the vaults attract attention. Despite its prominent location, it is usually quiet and peaceful here. This is a good option for those who do not want to travel outside the city.

Church of St. Thomas

Located on a hill above the beach of the village of Becici, 4 kilometers from Budva. Built in the 14th century, it has retained medieval simplicity in both its exterior and interior decoration. On the territory there is a souvenir shop, a consecrated spring and a small rose garden.

Church of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist Luke (Kotor)

It is one of the oldest temples in the region. It was erected in 1195 with donations from the benefactor Maura Katsefaranga for the Catholic community. It is notable for the fact that during the reign of the Venetian administration in the 17th century, an Orthodox altar was also installed here and over the next 150 years, services began to be held in two rites. Despite its age, this place of worship has preserved Italo-Cretan frescoes from the 12th century and contains particles of the relics of the martyrs Auxentius, Orestes and Mardarius. The local abbot enjoys special respect among believers.

Praskvica Monastery (Paštroviči)

The monastery is located in a shady olive grove above the village of Milocer, which is a 15-minute drive from Budva. Named after the stream with sweetish water that tastes like peach. On its territory there were once several churches and a monastery school. In 1812, the French plundered the thriving monastery and almost wiped out the 15th century buildings. Over the course of thirty long years, the local community rebuilt the Church of St. Nikola on the old foundation. Now it is a quiet, cozy and very spiritual place with picturesque blue shutters, tall cypress trees and an unusual atmosphere.

Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Perast)

This is the only Orthodox church in this unique town, which is fully listed as a UNESCO protected site. The church itself was built in 1757 in a very picturesque location on a hill. Thanks to the incredible view of the Bay of Kotor, it is very popular for both church weddings and secular weddings. In the courtyard, on the green lawn, branches of palm trees are spread out, giving the landscape a tropical motif. During the season, wedding photo shoots are often held here, taking a break from the heat of the stone labyrinths.

Church of Our Lady of the Reef

The church on the island near Perast is known far beyond its borders. This temple is shrouded in an ancient legend about sailors who found an icon with the face of the Virgin Mary on a stone shallow and subsequently built the Church of the Holy Virgin on the holy site. Services here are held according to the Catholic rite. Just a couple of years ago, virtually every second couple sailed to this man-made reef for a wedding photo shoot. However, now, more and more often, local ministers do not have a very positive attitude towards newlyweds who were not married here, and do not give them a blessing for photography. Therefore, depending on your luck. Well, I highly recommend visiting the island for tourism purposes!

Temple in Risan

The wedding at the Banya convent in Risan takes place after an interview with the priest. There are quite strict rules here. This Orthodox monastery was founded in the 15th century and survived the rule of the Venetian Republic, the Ottoman Empire, the French invasion and the Yugoslav War, and now adequately holds its defense against the influx of tourists.

Temple of the Archangel Michael

Two kilometers from Tivat on the island there is the Church of the Archangel Michael. Tradition says that a long time ago the Apostle Paul himself preached here. Founded in the 6th century, the church is the oldest in the country. Previously, the entire landmass was occupied by monastic buildings, but in the mid-15th century, the vile Venetians poisoned all the monks and spread rumors about a terrible epidemic. And all in order to plunder the rich episcopal throne and raze its glory to the ground. Now this quiet place is called the Island of Flowers. There is a tiny marina for sailing yachts and a small Trinity Church with two monks and a nun. For weddings, christenings and other church sacraments, this place is chosen by people who value, first of all, piety and do not chase pathos and worldly vanity.

Rezevici Monastery

The Rezevici Monastery is located 7 km from Milocer, right next to the Adniatic Highway in the direction of Petrovac. This is a quiet and cozy place with stone buildings in a classic Mediterranean style. On one side it is surrounded by majestic mountains, and on the other - the blue of the sea. The viewing platform located on the territory offers a magnificent view of the Adriatic. Here you can hold both weddings and outdoor wedding ceremonies with a large number of guests.

Moraca Monastery

Located in the northern part of Montenegro, two hours drive from Budva. An incredibly picturesque road leads to it along the gorge of the mountain river of the same name, passing through many tunnels and meandering through the mountains. This place was founded in the mid-13th century by the dynasty of Serbian kings Nemanja. It is distinguished by both a special atmosphere and Romanesque architecture, rare in these places. The territory of the monastery is fenced with a fortification, and inside there are cells and the main temple. It has preserved the ancient paintings of the walls and internal vaults with gilding and embossing, and the massive carved gates made of valuable types of wood can be viewed for an infinitely long time. Definitely, a wedding ceremony held here will leave a deep imprint on the soul.

Monastery of St. Savin in Herceg Novi

The Monastery of St. Savin in Herceg Novi is a wonderful well-kept Baroque-style complex located on a hill overlooking the Bay of Kotor. This is a different world within the city, where the bustle recedes into the background.

Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary

The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is part of the Cetinje Monastery complex. It is located in the ancient capital of Montenegro and was founded in 1757. This is a majestic and iconic place where, in addition to the right hand of John the Baptist, many other Orthodox relics are kept. If you hold a wedding at the height of the summer season, there is a high probability of running into endless crowds of tourists.

Church of St. Archangel Michael

The beautiful Orthodox Church of St. Michael the Archangel located in the heart of the old town of Herceg Novi. It is unique in that it was built in three styles at once - Byzantine, Islamic and Romanesque Gothic. The rich decoration of the interior chambers and the grandeur of the exterior make it the most photogenic among the nearby shrines. If desired, you can order singers from the church choir for the wedding. This will give the sacrament a special depth and emphasize the impression.

Chapel of Saint Sava

This is perhaps the most popular place for weddings in all of Montenegro. It is located half an hour from Budva on a high hill. As a rule, the ceremony itself is not held in the church building, since it is very small, but on a consecrated observation platform overlooking the island of Sveti Stefan. Once they see this place, everyone wants it. With such a rush, it is often necessary to book a date with the priest in advance (ideally as soon as you have purchased tickets). The most impressive and emotional look are wedding photographs taken here at sunset, when the sky is illuminated by the warm rays of the sun setting into the sea.

I hope this information will be useful to you and you can easily choose what is right for you. I will be happy to conduct a beautiful wedding photo shoot for you and capture the unique moments of your wedding in Montenegro.
